ক্যাটিমন আমের বৈশিষ্ট্য

The Katimon mango, a Thai cultivar also known as Catimon, has gained fame for its year-round fruiting, earning the nickname “Baramasi” or “all-time” mango. Originating in Thailand, it was introduced to Bangladesh in 2018 by nursery owner Abul Kashem, who popularized it through seedling sales, and it has since spread to India, particularly West Bengal. This medium-sized, oval-shaped mango retains glossy green skin with a subtle red blush even when ripe, offering vibrant yellow, fiberless flesh with a creamy texture. Its exceptional sweetness, with a Total Soluble Solids content of around 27, surpasses most mangoes, balanced by a mild tang, making it ideal for fresh eating, smoothies, desserts like Thai mango sticky rice, or savory dishes like chutneys. Katimon trees, semi-dwarf at 4–6 meters, thrive in tropical and subtropical climates, requiring well-drained, fertile soil, ample sunlight, and moderate watering. Grafted plants fruit within 1.5–2 years, producing multiple harvests annually, especially in summer and winter. Rich in vitamins C and A, fiber, and antioxidants, Katimon mangoes boost immunity, aid digestion, and support heart and skin health. Their adaptability for pot cultivation and long shelf life enhance their appeal for urban gardeners and commercial growers. Despite occasional challenges like inconsistent blooming in some climates, the Katimon mango’s flavor, versatility, and availability make it a tropical gem.

Characteristics of Katimon mango

• Shape and Size: Medium-sized, slightly elongated, oval-shaped mangoes, weighing approximately 400–600 grams each, with four fruits typically making up one kilogram.

• Skin Color: Glossy green skin with a subtle red blush, even when fully ripened, distinguishing it from other varieties that turn yellow or red.

• Tree Characteristics: Semi-dwarf trees growing to 4–6 meters (13–20 feet), suitable for small gardens, terraces, and pot cultivation (10–15 feet in pots).
