ব্যানানা আম বলেন অথবা ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গো, এই আম দেখতে অনেকটা কলার মতো । দূর থেকে দেখে মনে হবে আমগাছে সাগর কলা ঝুলছে। তবে ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গো গায়ে-গতরে মোটা। পাকলে সাগর কলার রূপ ধারণ করে। কলার রঙে নিজেকে রাঙিয়ে অনেকের দৃষ্টি কেড়ে নেয়। দেশের বিভিন্ন উদ্যানকেন্দ্র ও শৌখিন আমচাষীদের বাগানে এখন ব্যানানা আম শোভা পাচ্ছে। আর অভিনব এই আম দেখার জন্যে অনেকেই গাছের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকছে। মাগুরা উদ্যানকেন্দ্রের তিনটি গাছে ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গো ধরেছে। অনেকে এই আমের ছবি তুলছে। সাধারণত আম এক বছর ধরে এক বছর ধরে না। কিন্তু ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গো প্রতিবছরই ধরে। ফলনও হয় খুব। মাগুরা উদ্যানকেন্দ্রের ছোট ছোট তিনটি গাছে প্রতিটিতে ২০-২৫টি করে আম ধরেছে। এই আম একেবারে মৌসুমের শেষে পাকে। ইংল্যান্ড-আমেরিকায় এর খুবই কদর। অনেক দামে বিক্রি হয়। কিন্তু আমটি এদেশের নতুন অতিথি। থাইল্যান্ড থেকে বিমানে চেপে ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গো বাংলাদেশে এসেছে। ১০/১২ বছর আগে প্রথম এই আমের চারা নিয়ে আসেন উদ্যানতত্ত্ববিদ সঞ্চয় কুমার কয়েলদার। এরপর কৃষিবিদ এসএম কামরুজ্জামান বর্তমানে সমন্বিত মানসম্পন্ন উদ্যান উন্নয়ন প্রকল্পের প্রকল্প পরিচালক থাইল্যান্ড থেকে ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গোর বেশকিছু চারা নিয়ে আসেন। বংশবিস্তার করে বিভিন্ন উদ্যানকেন্দ্রের মাধ্যমে তিনি মাঠ পর্যায়ের আগ্রহী কৃষকদের মাধ্যমে ব্যানানা ম্যাঙ্গো ছড়িয়ে দেন।

A mango like a banana. From a distance, it looks like sea bananas are hanging from mango trees. But banana mango is thicker. When ripe, it takes the form of a sea banana. By painting himself in banana color, he steals the attention of many. Banana mangoes are now adorning the gardens of various garden centers and amateur mango growers in the country. And many people are standing in front of the tree to see this fancy mango. Three trees at Magura Garden Center have caught banana mangoes. Many people are taking pictures of this mango. Usually mangoes do not last for a year. But banana mangoes last year. The yield is also very high. Three small trees at the Magura Garden Center yielded 20-25 mangoes each. This mango ripens at the very end of the season. It is highly valued in England and America. It is sold at a high price. But the mango is the new guest of this country. Banana mango has arrived in Bangladesh by plane from Thailand. 10/12 years ago, horticulturist Acumin Kumar Coildar first brought this mango seedling. Then agronomist SM Kamruzzaman, currently project director of the Integrated Quality Horticulture Development Project, brought several banana mango seedlings from Thailand. He propagated banana mango through various horticulture centers through interested farmers at the field level.
